Summary:
Inspect dwellings, premises, and vacant lots for compliance with City codes and in initiating and documenting appropriate actions to ensure dwellings, premises and vacant lots found in violation are repaired, condemned, razed and cleaned in compliance with City ordinances along with State code and laws.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Issue building permits for construction inside the City of Austin corporate city limits.
Respond to all citizen complaints and questions in a professional manner within one to two business days.
Enforce all city ordinances.
Keep exact records for code enforcement.
Patrol the City to remove illegal or abandoned signs weekly.
Post record of each inspection at job site if needed by the department.
Issue violation notices and stop-work orders.
Patrols construction sites and the city as a whole daily for inspections, violations, and proper permits.
Post and tag property for violations.
Attend and testify in court as required.
Administrator of City Floodplain Plan.
Function as Storm Water Inspector.
Create applicable reports for City Council.
Attend City Council Meetings.
Attend Planning Commission Meetings, as required.
Issue Certificate of Occupancy after all building inspections are complete.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
One to two years of related experience preferred.
Possess a valid Arkansas Driver's License before and through duration of employment.
Must be able to pass drug screening and background check.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Needed:
Basic knowledge of computer programs.
Knowledge of construction specifications.
Skills in task management.
Ability to speak effectively and courteously with citizens, business professionals, state and federal officials, and employees of the City while developing cooperative and continuing relationships.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to multi-task, keep track of details, good organization skills and protect and maintain confidential information.
Ability to work independently but also with other employees in Public Works.
Ability to deal with the public and elected officials in a professional and courteous manner.
